Rebecca Litt is a painter and freelance web designer living in Brooklyn, NY. She is a jack-of-all-trades, having been a policy advisor to a US Senator and a professor of drawing and painting at the University of New Hampshire before moving to Brooklyn to focus on painting. Rebecca has an MFA from Indiana University and a BFA from Tufts and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. She has exhibited paintings in New York and nationally. Her web design work can be found at YELLOWMANGODESIGN.COM

The places and situations I depict are invented, loosely inspired by my own experiences. Many of my paintings have a void in the center, a fence to look through, or a wall to look around. People hide under bubble wrap, construct slipshod forts out of warped boards and orange construction fence, and work industriously to erect ineffectual barriers. What they are hiding from is not exactly clear, but the permeable barriers these characters cling to, such as plastic netting and broken fences, offer a false sense of security at best.

The geometry of industrial materials in urban landscapes allows me to play with representation and abstraction so that pattern and flat areas of color exist in plausibly realistic settings.
